What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word.
This week’s word: ENVY

BEHIND THE MASK
by John Yeo
Our friends the next door neighbours are always in the red, heavily in debt, but always so very happy.
We have always worked very hard for every penny we have, and we save our money for a rainy day.
They are lucky, going off on a cruise around the world, how do they manage that with all their bills?
We are off to a guest house in Southend-on-sea, all we can afford, unlike some careless people.
We thought they were crooks until we found out the truth, they won a lot of money on the lottery.

If only, I always think of the book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” when I read about a contrast of saving versus spending.
Thanks for the great response Cammie~Yes a contrast that usually inspires envy 🙂
A great take on the prompt, John.
I’m reminded of the saying –
Money isn’t everything… 😉 😉
So true Carolyn Peace of mind is worth so much 🙂
Oh, it’s everything, John. 🙂
Great – really feeling the envy there. Keeping up with the Joneses feel to it. 🙂
