THE COPPER KETTLE
by John Yeo
Grandma possessed a highly polished dented copper kettle, very well-used. We enjoyed our tea in the days before she passed away. We children would swear it was a magic kettle. One day we were playing in the kitchen when a very fierce looking dog entered the open door, snarling and growling with huge yellow teeth. Grandma used some magical words, grabbed the copper kettle from the hot stove and threw it at the dog, shouting these unfamiliar words. The dog yelped and fled. Grandma made us promise to never use these magical words as we would be in serious trouble.
