Take Care
When you’re unwell, do you allow others to take care of you, or do you prefer to soldier on alone? What does it take for you to ask for help?

HAVE A CARE

by John Yeo

  “Take Care” is a fond farewell greeting nowadays as people take their leave of each other. The obvious meaning is to be careful as you proceed onwards in life, carefully avoiding the pitfalls and dangers that can be apparent as you travel the unknown road ahead. “Look after Yourself.”
   In the present context to ‘Take Care.’ refers to the way one takes care of oneself, or alternatively should one allow others to take responsibility for their care, in the event of illness or a sudden indisposition. My first inclination would be to look after myself, and allow others to become involved at the very last possible minute. I think the up-to-date method of taking care, is to fight any illness wth the self medication that is available everywhere over any Pharmacy counter. There is much advice available to begin to understand the onset of a minor illness, and fighting on alone is the only way to proceed. However the time to ask for help is when the symptoms do not clear up and fear for your personal health sets in. This is the time to ask for the professional help and advice from the trained medical personnel.

Have a Care!

Daily Prompt on WordPress ~ 18th December 2015 ~ THE ARTIST’S EYE

The Artist’s Eye
The Artist’s Eye Is there a painting or sculpture you’re drawn to? What does it say to you? Describe the experience. (Or, if art doesn’t speak to you, tell us why.)

 Auguste Rodin’s “The Thinker”

by John Yeo

  Wherever or whenever, I have ever seen a reproduction of this incredible work of art, I am entranced. I am sure this is a very allegorical piece of work, full of hidden alternatives. My thoughts are with the mind of the sculptor.
  What was in the mind of the sculptor as he constructed this work of art? What was he trying to reveal through the deep concentrated reflection of thought revealed in the face of the subject?
  When I ponder on the ponderer and think about the mind that is reflected in the depiction of a mind, set deep in thought. It is difficult not to equate the creative process, reflecting the mind of the creator with the creator of this work of art. Was the sculptor in a creative trance that guided his mind and his hands to portray such an intense reality? The figure of the man has his head bowed resting on his right hand in a position that can only be viewed as deep concentrated thought. One wonders what was actually in the mind of a man who could produce such an incredible piece of work.
  In the mundane world of most people’s reality, survival and the normal processes of day-to-day living fill the crevices of an average mind to the exclusion of almost everything else. The dedication required to simply create something as intense and perfect as this amazing work of art must be phenomenal.
  To me this represents the complete dedication and incredible mind power that is required to start, build, and complete any complex project or creative accomplishment.
  Auguste Rodin’s depiction of a thinker always sets my thinking processes off on a wild stream of thought. I can only begin to guess how other minds are affected by this incredible work of art, that would be like trying to read the mind of a bronze statue that is obviously deep in thought.
  According to historical legend Auguste Rodin originally created this statue as part of a much larger piece of work. Apparently the figure was supposed to represent the Italian poet Dante Alighieri thinking about his incredible epical story of Paradise and Inferno.

BECAUSE THE NIGHT”

by John Yeo

   Lenny was a rising star in his field, he had started at the bottom of the organisation and had been rapidly promoted to area-manager.   Ruthlessly brushing aside his rivals, he had used every trick in the book to get where he was today.
     The confidence levels of the superstar, super sales-manager were at the highest levels. He was a dynamo that never seemed to slow down, or break down. Record figures on his monthly sales graph told the story of his infinitely clever abilities.
  One day he was ordered to attend a very special meeting with his well known, internationally famous boss.
  Ricky Ricardo, was a guitarist who had made a pile from the recording industry and was now diversifying into other areas. Lenny was both intrigued and flattered to attend this meeting, he had always been a fan of his bosses music and he couldn’t contain his curiosity.
   Lenny stepped into a huge outer office and was directed to a seat by a secretary.
       “Please take a seat, Mr Ricardo is expecting you and he is aware you are here.”
    “Thank you,” Lenny replied. Looking around this outer office, Lenny noticed that the walls were covered with photographs and memento’s of Ricky Ricardo’s long established career in the music industry.
The secretary smiled and motioned Lenny towards the main office.
     “You can go in now.”
  Entering the office, Lenny gasped in surprise to be confronted by an aged, wizened wrinkled man, seated behind a huge desk.
         “Hi! Don’t look so shocked son. We all get a little older each day. I know what you are thinking and I am not surprised at your reaction. Take a seat. I am impressed with your performance since you joined the company, and I want to make you an offer that I hope you will find difficult to refuse.”
   “Thank you Sir!” responded Lenny.
            “Call me Ricky, How are you sleeping lately? I fully understand if you are having difficulty with your sleeping patterns. We all do after a while. That last deal you made, must have cost you an awful lot of sleep the way you ruthlessly ripped off those people for the benefit of the company.”
  Taken aback, Lenny just murmured, “I sleep OK!”
              “Do you really? That’s amazing, I always toss and turn after I have screwed a few people for all they have got the world. That’s how I got to look like this, because the night is always the time your conscience should be bothering you. Are you sure?”
    “Well!” intoned Lenny “Now you come to mention it, I do have a few problems and the Doctor has prescribed sleeping tablets.”
               “I knew it son, you have a long way to go yet, I am going to give you early retirement with a month’s pay in lieu of notice.”
    Lenny was stunned. “But why?” was all he could get out.
              “Call it justice son. That last lady you conned out of her life savings was a distant relative of mine. Think about it tonight, because the night is the time things begin to catch up on you.”

You’ve been given the superpower to change one law of nature. How do you use it?

JUSTIN EQUALITY

by John Yeo

  The ruler scratched his head with disbelief, as the diminutive little person stood before him with his chest raised, trying to look fierce. He knew the awesome kingly power of his endless rule was under threat.
     “You say you have the power to change one of the laws of nature! Which law may I ask, are you able to alter and how?” asked the King.

      “My name is Justin Equality, I have been given the power to change the Law of Polarity. I am able to do away with the concept of positive and negative sides of an object or idea, and reveal the unique oneness of everything. There can be no more polar opposites. Good and evil, will become one entity, as will love and hate, peace and war. Each of the previous opposites will become one natural reality.”
  The King was very interested in this power, and his first thought was the relief that would come into effect, if there were no more wars, no more hate and a permanent absence of evil.
        “I would like you to put this change into effect immediately, and I will reward you handsomely if you manage to do away with war and hate.
The wars we are fighting all the time, cost our exchequer a fortune.”
  The King had a secret plan to remove Justin from the kingdom, once he had changed the Law of Nature.
       “Yes, this will be done immediately.” Justin Equality replied and stood very still and concentrated his mind on the heavens. There was a crash of thunder as two clouds collided.
 The King smiled as this signal for a new way of life sounded, and signalled to his guards to arrest Justin as planned. He was shaken to see that no one moved or took any notice of him.
      “I order you to arrest this man!” He shouted loudly, but no-one took any notice, in fact one of his previously very courteous courtiers, smiled at him, very familiarly, almost as if he was his equal.
  Justin then stepped forward with a friendly grin and said, “Look here my friend you are no longer any different than the man in the street now. You have authorised the change in the Law of Polarity, and there are now no Polar opposites. Light and dark, yes and no, energy and matter, and certainly no more rich and poor or king and subject.”

Justin Equality has just equalised everything.

POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME

By John Yeo

The man in the black mask and cloak raced across the roof tops and silently jumped between two close buildings. Far below, there was a distant sound of screeching sirens as the emergency services arrived at the building he had just left. The man smiled, and continued moving randomly between several more buildings, then he opened a rucksack and donned a white coat. Placing the mask and cloak with a pair of black gloves inside the bag, he calmly walked down a metal fire-escape into the hospital below.

“Good evening, Dr Airy,” said a harassed looking Sister. “Sorry I can’t stop. We have an emergency on the ward.”

“Good evening! Please go ahead, I am on my way to my office, if I am required, I am carrying the bleep tonight.”

“Yes Doctor!”

There had been a serious incident earlier in the evening, the Doctor was informed by his colleague, Dr Jenny Fergusson.
“An intruder wearing black, has entered the canteen and mysteriously stolen a massive quantity of sugar.”

“Sugar!” Dr Airy echoed. As his ears suddenly started growing and facial hair began sprouting rapidly on his cheeks.

Startled, Dr Jenny exclaimed, “Doctor! Your appearance is physically changing! What is happening to you?”

“I’m afraid I am unsure, Dr. Fergusson, Please pick up that sugar bowl there, and pour it over my face. I am undergoing a phsyical change, since I started treating a patient with a radioactive disease. My protective clothing was pulled off by the aggressive patient. I have discovered that the only antidote is the application of sugar.”

“Certainly Doctor, or whoever you are now.” said the mischievous Dr. Ferguson. Pressing the alarm button.
Two orderlies dashed in and removed the now unrecognisable Doctor to the Psychiatric unit, where he remains to this day.

SORRY, I’M BUSY

by John Yeo

They were locked in the kitchen of a remote farmhouse in the hills. A farm in the deepest valley, where the crystal clear water ran down the hills into a lake.
The food supplies were finished and the pains were gnawing at his stomach. Jodie, his little sister, kept passing out in a dead faint, she would come round with tears in her soulful eyes and look appealingly at him. There was nothing he could do, since their Mum and Dad had been killed, no-one had been to the house. The bodies were still lying on the floor where the robbers had left them. He had tried to get a line out on the phone only to find the robbers had ripped the wires away and disconnected the telephone. Then, he discovered a mobile phone next to his parents bed, he hadn’t noticed it lying there before and he pressed a button that dialled his Uncles number. The ringing tone was answered by a recorded voice that kept repeating, “Sorry, I’m busy, right now. Please leave your message and I will get back to you later!” “Sorry, I’m busy, right now…………

DAILY PROMPT ~ 20th SEPTEMBER 2015 ~ EXHALE

DAILY PROMPT on Word Press ~ 20th  Sept 2015

Exhale
“Tell us about a time when everything seemed to be going wrong — and then, suddenly, you knew it would be alright.”

EXHALE SLOWLY

(Pure fiction) 🙂

by John Yeo

The first thing that led me to believe that this was going to be one of those days, was when my absolutely reliable, dependable alarm call failed to sound I woke two hours late for my work, to discover that my mobile phone had stopped working, exactly one hour before the alarm was due to sound.
I immediately attempted to telephone my office to say I was running late but my landline was out of order and I still had no signal on my mobile phone. l switched on the television to catch the news, the newscaster was rambling on about all the troubles in the world, but there wasn’t anything about local communications failure. I switched it off in disgust.
I thought I may as well accept the fact that my morning was missing, why shouldn’t I indulge in a good brunch and start work in the afternoon. I put some toast under the grill and eggs were frying in the pan when there was a knock at the door. I rushed to answer the door to find my neighbour on the doorstep. “Have you a telephone that works?” She asked.
“No!” I replied. “I am going in to work this afternoon!”
Suddenly I smelt smoke and my smoke alarm went crazy, I realised what I had done and slammed the door in her face. I quickly went to the kitchen to find the oven was on fire so I raced to the sink and filled a bucket with water and tried to put the fire out. Too late, I realised that water and electricity do not mix, just as the lights fused with a crack and a mains fuse blew.
Then sirens sounded and bells were ringing as three fire engines raced up, summoned by my neighbour who had smelt smoke at the same moment I did when I slammed the door, and she had stopped a passing car-driver who had immediately raced to the fire station.
I held my breath as the electricity company arrived to restore the power, and the telephone company arrived at the same time to carry out repairs to the communications systems.
My telephone line restored, my mobile phone rang with a call from my Mother to say she had one of her headaches and would I mind bringing her some tablets after I finished work. I took another deep breath and attempted to quickly explain the situation, but I had to hang up on her as my landline sounded and there was a loud knocking at my door at the same time. I answered the door to find a policeman on the doorstep investigating a burglary at a local store where the thieves had disabled the local communication systems. The call on the landline was the telephone company apologising for the break in communications. Next I got a call from my mobile phone company apologising for the failure of the mobile signal, neither of the two incidents were related. I took another deep breath as I called my house insurance cover company and after much argument and clouding of the issue they promised to send an assessor to assess the damage. I finally got through to the office and my employer said this chain of circumstances was so far-fetched, it had to be true.
I then exhaled loudly as I realised everything would turn out OK!

It would be another day tomorrow. It is my birthday. Yes!!!!!

DAILY PROMPT ~ 4th SEPTEMBER 2015 ~ CONSULTING WITH HIS LORDSHIP

Isolation

DAILY PROMPT on Word Press ~  3rd Sept 2015
Inside the Bubble
A contagious disease requires you to be put into quarantine for a whole month (don’t worry, you get well by the time you’re free to go!). How would you spend your time in isolation?

~~~~~~~
CONSULTING WITH HIS LORDSHIP
by John Yeo
  A whole month to concentrate on many things and try to use the enforced isolation to create something that I can build on by the time I am well enough to go home. My first requirement would be a laptop or an iPad, hopefully with an Internet connection that would enable me to work on my writing. The internet connection is not an essential as I can quite easily work offline. If necessary I would be able to work with an old-fashioned fountain pen and paper, I am quite capable of writing using longhand.
  The most important requirement would be a clear state of mind. Would I be on strong medication, that could affect my thought processes?
Would I be able to summon up the energy and be able to demonstrate the reserves of commitment and concentration?
Given that my state of health is fairly reasonable and I am not zonked out by very strong drugs. I would spend my time working on creative writing.
I think I would start a whole new project, using the models of my carers as characters in my story.
Beneath the anonymous sterile protective garments required by the staff who would care for me in the isolation ward, are some very real dedicated people.
 The consultant in charge of my case, would be written in as the Lord of the manor and a king of all he surveys. A cool unemotional man who is very guarded in his manner and very cautious in his relationships with his staff and his patients. The hospital consultant is always briskly visible on ward-rounds and is looked up to by one and all. As the Lord of the manor he would be very distant from all, delegating much responsibility to trusted managers.
 The junior doctors and medical trainees, would be individually written into my story as these invaluable confidants, who work wonders in keeping the treatment plans of the patients and the estate management plans on track.
 The ward sister would be written as his personal assistant, trusted almost to the point of becoming a colleague. The exceptional people-managing skills she possesses would be invaluable to our Lord of the manor and she would almost certainly be represented as his Personal Assistant or the estate manager.
 The hardworking nurses who administer to my needs in the super sterile isolation ward, very friendly, skilfully detecting and reacting to any change in my condition, or my mood, would be very important characters to his Lordship. This team of dedicated individuals would be the estate employees, very competently working to keep things running smoothly, checking supplies and reacting to the slightest change or trouble looming ahead. The hospital nursing staff interact personally and directly with the patient, raising his or her spirits when required and granting the people in their care the dignity of a friendly face to relate to. These skills would be invaluable in any organisation. His lordship would be very aware of this and these valuable personnel would be transferred to many areas in his organisation.
 The auxiliary staff who would be securely gowned and masked in protective attire, would speedily but efficiently carry out their duties, cleaning and delivering clean linen and removing soiled linen in special protective bags. Always very friendly, but always cautious as they quickly carry out their duties. These invaluable people would be members of his Lordships domestic staff, tirelessly working for the continued very smooth running of a large estate and organisation.
 Then as my month in isolation progressed I would build the character of his Lordship and introduce her Ladyship, an ex fashion-model and now a society queen, ruling over an empire of social butterflies who would be vieing with each other for her attentions. This would translate to the hospital general manager and chief executive, responsible for authorising the budgets for each department throughout the hospital.
 My impending discharge from hospital would come to the fore as my enforced quarantine isolation came to an end. There would be many visitors and my family and friends would now be allowed to visit. The protective masks and gowns would disappear.
 This would relate to the lifting of the quarantine restrictions and many people would be allowed back into my life. Leading to my personal very interesting ongoing story.
