WICKED WICKLES

by John Yeo

To someone who has never encountered Wickles

A writing prompt from M can be cunningly concealing

Wicked or innocent the imagination bristles.

~

With a thorny question on a bed of wicked prickles

It was enough to send the sense of reality reeling

To someone who has never encountered Wickles.

~

Were they witches covens with spellbinding trickles?

Or a questionable form of alternative healing?

Wicked or innocent the imagination bristles.

~

After onerous research through magical epistles

An enquiry through Google search was revealing

To someone who has never encountered Wickles.

~

Showing mouthwatering wicked, hot Wickles pickles

A mix of spicy vegetables so tastefully appealing

Wicked or innocent the imagination bristles.

~

Wicked flavours the unrefined palate tickles

Through a tasty gastronomic flavourful feeling

To someone who has never encountered Wickles

Wicked or innocent the imagination bristles.

UNSEASONABLY SALTY

Prompt ~UNSEASONABLY SALTY

UNSEASONABLY SALTY

by John Yeo

If salt were a part of the recent trend,
Would the salty flavour alter our taste?
Would we finish our food to the bitter end?
~
If salt were consumed with a dietary end,
Would the real food flavour ever be traced?
If salt became a part of the recent trend.

~

Without a dash of salt to add to the blend
Food seems indigestible, yet hard to waste.
Would we finish our food to the bitter end?

~

If we faced the bitter truth would it tend,
To touch our consciences, sadly debased?
If salt were a part of the recent trend.

~

Would scientific research be hard to defend

With salty language, sadly misplaced?

Would we finish our food to the bitter end?

~

Careless views would be hard to defend
Unseasonably salty and badly displaced.
If salt were a part of the recent trend,
Would we finish our food to the bitter end?

CERTIFIABLY SENSATIONAL

by John Yeo

The specialist stepped back looking grave,
He frowned and said with a hopeless sigh;
‘I’m afraid you’ll have to be extra brave.
This infection has hit hard like a shockwave.
We did our utmost to apply and nullify

The viral particles are alive and mutational
We used an antidote the symptoms to stave,
Your child’s stats show we were right to retry.

The vaccine’s effects are certifiably sensational.

This new drug has helped us save life

~

There’s no guarantee but our hopes are high,
I’m afraid you’ll have to be extra brave.
We waited, breath-baited, tried to believe
Praying and beseeching to the cold blue sky.

The speed of the response was inspirational,

Colour slowly appeared with a flickering eye

Shallow breathing quickly became stronger

A slight smile appeared on the thin pale lips

The senses returned in a symphony to health

A revolutionary treatment; certifiably sensational.

SOFA SURFING

by John Yeo

Sofa surfing isn’t connected to exploring the internet,

It’s a step away from a night on a cold stone pavement,

A friendly gesture that will always be hard to forget.

~

A circle of good friends will always be a valuable asset

When homelessness begins to make a slow descent

Sofa surfing isn’t connected to exploring the internet.

~

A harsh alternative to hope can be a powerful threat

Life’s troubles and despair arrive without relent

A friendly gesture will always be hard to forget.

~

To help a friend in need is something never to regret

Just an even break will help towards a hard ascent

Sofa surfing isn’t connected to exploring the internet.

~

A friendly sofa can go forward and adjust the mindset

Bringing hope of an end to the need to beg for consent

A friendly gesture will always be hard to forget.

~

Friendship and help bring hope for a life to reset

The slide into homelessness can be hard to prevent,

Sofa surfing isn’t connected to exploring the internet

A friendly gesture will always be hard to forget.

Prompt ~ THE FLYING FUTURE

THE FLYING FUTURE

by John Yeo

The future will certainly be flying,

Forever one small step in advance
Prediction will always need clarifying.

Flight change will be varied and mystifying

With so many pathways left to chance,

Change will occur in the blink of an eye.

From spacecraft capable of visiting the stars

To individual jetsuits and flying cars.

~

The Flying Future, will be a mysterious pathway

As one aerial step passes away in the past

Tomorrow gets further in the temporal distance

With so many pathways left to chance.

The ever-changing future is always one step away,

Perhaps science fiction time-travel is the ultimate clue,

With time-trips where we can keep up and view;

The Flying Future.

AVIAN CANNIBALS

by John Yeo

A powerful hawk left his chicks safe in the nest

Seeking food for his family, flying fast and high

Swooping low in the treetops he began his quest.

~

A flock of pigeons across the treetops progressed

Unaware of the danger patrolling the sky

When the hungry hawk left his chicks in the nest.

~

The attack was silent and sudden, the prey distressed,

A bird was swiftly snatched in the blink of a hawk eye.

Swooping low in the treetops he returned to his nest.

`~

The tiercel and her chicks feasted on pigeon breast

Leaving the skeletal frame in the nest picked dry

The powerful hawk left his chicks safe in the nest.

~

A fierce golden eagle flying South by South-West

Snatched the unwary hawk with a screeching cry

Swooping low in the treetops he’d begun his quest.

~

This killer eagle was hunted, harried and oppressed

His feathers used for decoration, shot from the sky

A motherly hawk left her chicks safe in the nest

Swooping low in the treetops she began her quest.

Notes……Cannibalizing airframes

The airplane design was inspired and modelled on birds

Airplanes have wings, just like birds. They also have a light skeleton (or framework) to decrease their weight, and they have a streamlined shape to decrease drag. The big difference is that airplanes do not flap their wings.

The airframe of birds is composed of a body, a skeleton and a variety of multi coloured feathers

Hawks cannibalize smaller birds

Humanity eats their flesh and eggs and uses their feathers for decoration.

AIRBUS ACQUISITIONS

by John Yeo

‘If we’re going to make any permanent decisions

to keep our passenger service up and running,

We have to make some rapid Airbus acquisitions.’

A remark either stupid or incredibly cunning.

~

The board sat up in puzzled, shocked amazement,

Fiery, Sir Fred shouted, ‘Are you stark raving mad?

There’s a worldwide pandemic without containment.

Without passengers or income, things look really bad!’

~

There were nods of agreement from around the table,

‘The accountant continued, ‘We have enough in reserve

for investment and to keep our services stable.

We just need to be bold and to hold our nerve.’

~

Pandemonium broke out with angry loud disagreement

The chairman raised his voice , ‘Allow him to continue,’

‘Thank you. The market nosediving is quite convenient,

Everyone is strugglng this pandemic came out of the blue.’

~

Silence reigned as the atmosphere settled with interest,

‘The pandemic will be allayed with medical achievement

Passengers will travel and repay the investment,

We’ll be ready and able to expand when it’s finished

With some Airbus Acquisitions from the bargain basement.’

WIDE-BOOTY BOMBSHELLS

MONDAY 4th JANUARY 2021

Prompt ~WIDE-BOOTY BOMBSHELLS

I had to somewhat suppress my humorous urges when I saw the way this prompt was phrased as it borders on the edges of politeness.

However following M’s fascinating aircraft theme here is my researched aviation response

Airlander 10, is the largest aircraft in the world that also has a remarkable resemblance to a human behind, is ready to fly again, according to the company that built it.

In the U.K. the Airlander is affectionately known as the “flying bum.”

Here goes…

WIDE-BOOTY BOMBSHELLS

by John Yeo

Wing Commander Wolfson a man of action

Was put in command of the flying bombshell

He was aware of the danger of distraction.

~

The airship was designed to allow easy extraction

of the cargo from the capacious double rear-well

Wing Commander Wolfson was a man of action.

~

The crew could hardly suppress their elation
Discipline was essential this reaction to quell

There was always the danger of distraction.

~

Fuelling up the airship could lead to petrification

as the fumes and temperature began to gel

Wing Commander Wolfson was a man of action.

~

Flying this monster gave him great satisfaction

He loved his personal wide-booty bombshell.

Yes, he was aware of the danger of distraction.

~

A  memo from the Air Ministry caused consternation

Calling it a flying bum! A harsh, sinful, label,

Wing Commander Wolfson was a man of action

He was always aware of the danger of distraction.
