APRIL~ ”POEM-A-DAY”~DAY SEVENTEEN~ SWING POEM:

For today’s prompt, write a swing poem. Sure, there are park swings and mood swings; there’s swing music and swing dancing; and there are swingers. Some people swing one way; others swing another. In politics, there are swing votes and swing states. And many people have swung a bat, an ax, and/or a hammer in their lifetimes.

SWING POEM

by John Yeo

Thoughts drift as I lie here,

I remember my days at school.

Wooden desks and dipping pens,

Playtime in the playground.

“Wake up John! Please come back.”

The distant words hardly penetrate

My dreamy haze of thought.

I swing from the present, back in time.

I remember the country lanes as a boy,

The sun always seemed to shine.

Fishing with a pole on the local canal,

Then on to secondary school.

My mind jolts as the voice repeats,

“Wake up John! Please come back.”

I swing from the past to the present,

Then I swing into dreaming again.

“Open your eyes John, I am here”

I swing back to the now with love.

The healing sound of love in your voice,

“Come back please, I need you here! “

You stroke my head, my mind swings forward,

I take your tender hand.

“I am never going to leave you, ever,

I am sure you understand.”

RADIANT

by John Yeo

As predicted the meteor shower arrived exactly on time. They made love in the observatory as the stunning meteor shower arrived from a radiant in a far off universe, exploding brilliantly in the night sky.
Helena was beautiful, desired by many and loved by one, a learned Professor in Astrophysics. They had timed the moment precisely, his seed would meet her egg exactly at the right time. A star child would be conceived as the stunning meteor shower exploded in the sky above the glass observatory.
Leonid was born amid another stunning display of shining stars in the night sky.

PETER, PAUL AND MARY

by John Yeo

Peter and Paul were very close, brothers who took care of each other.
Since their miracle birth, their lives were entwined,
joined at the hip, a part of each other.
The separation operation, was a very risky affair.
After many hours under the surgeons knives,
they woke to a world living separate lives.
Separate souls with separate brains and separate personalities.
They have lived together all their lives,
competing and laughing with one another.
In the face of danger they stood together, mostly fighting each other,
Peer pressure to be unique was always very strong.
Mum and Dad washed their hands of the brothers at a very early age.
Peter and Paul at Uni. met a very pretty girl who was Mary.
They both fell violently in love.
Mary was flattered, very astute , she never returned their hints.
One day the brothers were locked in combat over Mary’s obvious charms.
“Stop! before you hurt each other,
I love you both equally, you will always be precious to me!”
Peter looked at Paul with mistrust in his eye and hatred in his heart,
“If what she says is true brother
perhaps we should never have been cut apart.”
Paul responded with a gentle remark.
“Brother and friend, be happy with Mary,
I am happy to be unique and free,
I am happy to be me! “
