THE QUESTION
by John Yeo
The peahen looks on in wonder as two peacock suitors vie for her attention, so different in looks and size and appearance.
The dazzling white peacock was cocksure of winning the ladies hand, everybody was stunned at his handsome appearance. Not a feather in disarray to spoil his courtship display, a beautiful youthful bird.
Standing next to him was the competition a wise old bird who preened with unlimited resources and a reputation for looking after the ladies. A famous wise old bird. Food and shelter would be luxurious here, her children would want for nothing.
Which bird won the Peahens hand?
Jim, a stunningly handsome well built youth, was a ladies man, desired by many ladies, in love with life, when he fell in love with a desirable beautiful lady.
Rick Roller, an ageing very famous singer, was also in love with her, and spent vast sums of money on his appearance, preening to seduce her. Money would be plentiful here and the children would want for nothing.
Which bird won the ladies hand?

Hahaha! I love this! I think the white peacock won her hand. But then, again, it could be… Great story John!! I love how you left the ending open to our own imaginations. 😀
Thanks PJ ~ I’m glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks for a great prompt. ~ 🙂
You’re welcome and thank you!
As you meant it to, this story makes me think a lot about who she would choose. It reminds me of well born ladies in the past, who had to choose a marriage based on factors like you wrote. But this reminds me of many romance novels too so she will first pick the old peacock because he means stability but she will fall for the white peacock in the end. Rick Roller, will desperately seek the ladies attention, but find a different lady he never noticed who will love him for him. Lol. Great job
Thanks for your great response mandibelle ~ I am very impressed with the way you broke the whole thing down and the conclusions you arrived at. Brilliant story building there I think. 🙂
Thanks John, again great story!
Isn’t it like that in real life too! Those who want to impress with outside beauty and those with the wisdom of knowledge! Love your way of giving the choice to the reader.
Thanks for your great comment scrapydo2 ~ I am glad you liked the question?
You are welcome.
I like the open ending to this story.
Thanks Laura ~ I ‘m really happy you were left to ponder on the finish ~ 🙂
This is a great post and I believe Mandi broke it down brilliantly. I agree with her assessment. 😐
I think that she figured a way to win them both… Peahens can be harpies!
