Daily Nature Log. 14th September 2026

A friendly Hi!

Daily Nature Log ✍️

A warm, bright start to the walk today at 22°C, with a gentle south-west wind brushing through the air. As I passed the town football ground, a pair of small white butterflies fluttered through the front gardens, and I exchanged a quick hello with a lady walking her yellow Labrador by the recreation ground gates. Overhead, a flock of around twenty feral pigeons wheeled above the leisure centre, flying in a surprisingly tight formation. Further along, the ‘friendly’ local Pitbull Terrier was standing proudly on his garden trampoline, peering over the fence—he posed so naturally that I couldn’t resist taking a photograph.

Entering the cemetery, I was struck by the brilliant contrast of a young rowan tree, its lime-green leaves set against rich scarlet berries, which startled a wood-pigeon into the sky as I passed. Nearby stood a young holm oak laden with acorns alongside a silver birch, while over on Cemetery Drive, a woman led her Cockapoo into the allotments and six gulls drifted above the golf course treetops. Returning past the leisure centre, the pigeon flock had grown to thirty, now lined up in neat rows along the rooftop. A young couple strolled by with a black-and-white Bull Terrier, and along Foxglove Lane, a familiar face was out walking his Golden Retriever and Black Labrador beneath the shade of the pines.
