Daily Nature Log. 16th September 2026

A return trip to Felbrigg Hall provided the backdrop for today’s dual-walk routine. The day opened with bright sunshine framed by a brisk 14 mph north-westerly wind and a pleasant 18°C temperature. We set off along the main avenue towards the hall, pausing to capture a photograph of Margaret framed by the stately backdrop of the main building while sheep grazed quietly nearby and an array of dog-walkers strolled past.

After completing her 27-minute stretch, Margaret settled in at the Squire’s Pantry with her e-book and a drink, alongside three entertaining pugs—two tan and one striking black.

Crossing the pastures towards the lake, the grazing sheep hardly batted an eye. A lone crow voiced its presence overhead, while a rustle in the high grass revealed a half-dozen juvenile pheasants darting and pausing in sequence. Further along, a black-and-white bull terrier offered a short warning bark in passing.

At the water’s edge, green reeds and bulrushes lined the banks, with a group of mallard ducks splashing across the far shore and three swans arriving to feed along the margins. Heading back towards the hall, a flock of corvids—likely rooks—perched sharply against the clear blue sky on the bare boughs of a leafless tree.

.  Rejoining Margaret at the cafe, the outing wrapped up with a pleasant chat with a couple and their impressive golden retriever.
