Daily Nature Log. 18th September 2026

Daily Nature Log ✍️
Margaret dropped me off at the golf club gates just as a swarm of feral pigeons scattered overhead, hotly pursued by four aggressive rooks. Clifftop-bound, I cut along the perimeter past corvids foraging in the lush turf.

At the edge, the tide was high and majestic. I snapped the blue waves rolling in alongside a lone cormorant stoically perched on a groyne. Up on the coastal path, sparrows were enjoying an energetic dust bath among brambles and tree lupins while two ladies ambled past with a Bichon Frise and a Shih Tzu.

Scarlet-berried sea buckthorn lined the route as I climbed toward the coastwatch station, pausing to admire the dramatic cliffs and swap greetings with an elderly couple leading two Tibetan Terriers. Near the peak, two brown butterflies—either Small Heaths or Meadow Browns—danced in the sea breeze, setting the stage for sweeping views back down toward Weybourne’s distant windmill and a lone fishing boat out on the water.

Heading down, the canine parade continued with a border collie, a terrier-schnauzer mix, an off-lead pointer, and a well-mannered labradoodle, alongside a curious jackdaw keeping watch over my return.
