Daily Nature Log. 22nd August 2026

.  At 4:00 pm today, Margaret and I headed to Sheringham Park, parking up under a mild 17°C to 19°C sky that felt more like 21°C in the close humidity, brushed by a gentle westerly breeze. We set off together for a gentle stroll, passing a few fellow walkers with a sleek black Labrador and a Pekingese-type dog in tow. Pausing on a bench under the soaring ancient pines, Margaret snapped photos of the magnificent canopy while wood pigeons chimed in territorially from high above. After another peaceful rest on the way, we looped back to the bustling National Trust café for a refreshing drink and a bit of people-watching—plus a few dog photos.

Leaving Margaret to relax, I set out into the woods to complete my main walk. Ducking down a side trail, I framed a grand shot of Sheringham Hall nestled behind woodland trees and grazing cattle, before capturing the steep steps descending into the fields below.

Back on the primary path, two blue tits darted through the rhododendrons while an impressive German Shepherd trotted past. A mystery thrush-sized bird zipped across the track far too quickly to ID, but the vista soon opened up to sweeping views of the Weybourne sea past agricultural fields. A lush, dense bed of tall green ferns brought back vivid childhood memories of hide and seek—an irresistible photo op—before I wrapped up the walk with pictures of a solitary hibiscus and a young oak laden with green acorns.
