After parking the Kuga, Margaret and I enjoyed a gentle 23-minute walk past the main Hall, passing plenty of families out with their dogs. Despite the steady procession of pets on leads, a flock of sheep grazed peacefully in the open fields.

We spotted a pair of yellow Labradors on our way to the Squire’s Pantry for a refreshing drink. Before setting off on my solo nature walk, I couldn’t resist snapping a picture of a handsome Springer Spaniel sitting at the neighboring table.

On the loop back, past a Cockapoo and a black Greyhound, I wandered into the West Garden. While flowers were scarce, the impressive giant sequoia and towering cypresses more than made up for it.

I finished up with a few quick photos of the sheep by the car park and was delighted to catch a flash of a jay darting swiftly into a leafy tree..
