Daily Nature Log. 2nd November 2026

Autumn splendour

Daily Nature Log ✍️
A chilly start today-10°C with an 11 mph northerly breeze that added a sharp bite to the air.
Two wood pigeons kept watch from separate rooftops as I set off. A black and white cat darted along the playing field hedge, scurried across the road, and vanished down a driveway. Bordering the pitch, a patch of tiny mushrooms caught my eye—sadly not in a fairy ring, leaving me to trudge on thoroughly unenchanted!

I snapped a picture of the local ‘friendly’ Pitbull, though Google Lens now insists he’s a Canary Mastiff; I’ll compromise on ‘Pitbull Mastiff’ for future logs. Over by the cemetery, a sudden chorus of loud flapping erupted as fourteen wood pigeons scattered from their feast of holly and rowan berries. Nearby, a brave cluster of dandelion-type flowers held out against the recent volatile weather.

Reaching the top field overlooking the farmland, I tested out the close-up lens on my new phone to capture the autumn leaves glowing in the distance, followed by a shot of the brooding, rain-heavy sky. Two blackbirds flicked across Cemetery Drive, three herring gulls rode the updrafts over the golf course hill, and a lone common gull grumbled loudly from his usual rooftop perch.

A cheery greeting from a lady out with her yellow Labrador rounded off the route nicely.
Today, I walked for 3.67 km in 61 minutes. Google Fit awarded me 25 heart points.
