Daily Nature Log ✍️
Margaret dropped me at the golf club gates on a sunny, 14°C afternoon, though a gentle breeze knocked the felt temperature down to 13°C. Setting off around the course, I spotted golfers on the greens, corvids circling nearby rooftops, and a splendid light-brown Cockapoo.

Reaching the cliff and seafront gates, I crossed paths with a family and their neatly trimmed brown Poodle, followed by a couple with two Scottish Terriers—one black, the other a handsome grey. Over at the boating lake, a crowd of half-term schoolchildren was engrossed in watching motorised model boats skim across the water.

Up on the clifftop, the tide was fully in, gentle waves rippling against the coastal rocks. Gulls wheeled overhead and lined the breakwaters, but the standout bird was a cormorant perched on a groyne, proudly drying its wings. Further along the promenade, an elderly lady sat deeply absorbed in her book or journal.

Continuing along the cliff path, a flash of purple thrift flowers caught my eye, as did the dramatic, towering face of the cliffs themselves. Heading back through the gardens, light sparkled through a tamarisk shrub, and a sparrow watched from a bramble. Near the golf gates, a gorse bush blazed with yellow blooms, while a French Bulldog and a black mongrel trotted past.

To top off the walk, I arrived at the level crossing just in time to capture a fine steam train puffing past, smoke billowing into the sky.
