Daily Nature Log ✍️
The wind off the sea had real teeth today—9°C in the gusts despite the 12°C forecast—making the cliffs and golf course feel properly bracing! A row of six expectant rooks held court on the bird-lovers’ fence, having clearly bullied off any smaller competition ahead of feeding time, while 50-odd corvids and a few gulls picked over the greens. Nearby, a huddle of common gulls sat with heads tucked tight beneath their wings against the blow.

Out on the exposed clifftops, the 20 mph northeast wind nearly wrestled the Pixel out of my hands as I snapped the wild, white-topped seas crashing below. A lively 8-month-old Cockapoo was giving its owners a proper run for their money while chatting with another couple and their black Schnoodle. The real highlight in the skies was a strange aircraft overhead—Google Lens later confirmed it as a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey—alongside an offshore supply vessel way out on the horizon that the camera’s long zoom captured brilliantly.

Heading along the promenade past a pair of hungry jackdaws and the sheltered boating lake, I looped back around the course, spotting an elderly couple with two Dachshunds (one brown, one black). Nature put on a grand show to finish: a lone, vivid blue flower on a lesser periwinkle, and a massive flock of about 50 sparrows hedge-hopping through the brambles by the railway line..
