Daily Nature Log. 23rd August 2026

Sequoia trees with various trees at the Orangery at Felbrigg Hall

A cool northerly breeze off the coast didn’t stop us from taking today’s daily stroll around Felbrigg Hall. After parking the Kuga, Margaret and I enjoyed a gentle 23-minute walk past the main Hall, passing plenty of families out with their dogs. Despite the steady procession of pets on leads, a flock of sheep grazed peacefully in the open fields.

We spotted a pair of yellow Labradors on our way to the Squire’s Pantry for a refreshing drink. Before setting off on my solo nature walk, I couldn’t resist snapping a picture of a handsome Springer Spaniel sitting at the neighboring table.

I revisited the deep-water pool from a few days ago—the recent sharp showers had transformed it from a muddy patch back into a proper pool. Though wildlife was sparse save for a lone blackbird flitting into a shrub, the magnificent tree overlooking the water made for a wonderful photo. On the loop back, past a Cockapoo and a black Greyhound, I wandered into the West Garden. While flowers were scarce, the impressive giant sequoia and towering cypresses more than made up for it.

I finished up with a few quick photos of the sheep by the car park and was delighted to catch a flash of a jay darting swiftly into a leafy tree..
