Daily Nature Log. 24th August 2026

Daily Nature Log ✍️
I set off into a brisk 21°C breeze today, splitting the journey into two distinct chapters.
First came the quiet, wild beauty of the cemetery grounds. The hardy yarrow and yellow ragwort were standing tall despite the recent dry spell, while small white butterflies danced around the margins. I passed the local ‘friendly’ Pit Bull Terrier—completely out cold on his garden path—before pausing to capture a Cabbage White resting on a goji berry blossom.

Haws and blackberries

The pathways were alive with late-summer color: vibrant rowans heavy with red berries, pink crab apples, wild green cherries, and a hungry blackbird raiding a hawthorn bush. Naturally, I couldn’t resist sampling a few sweet, sun-ripened blackberries along the way, nor missing a shot of the delicate Fallopia, wild brassica, and evening primrose blooming in the wilder borders.

Chapter two took a turn toward town life near the leisure centre and football ground. Birds were out in full force: four feral pigeons roosting in a neat row, a lively squad of twenty sparrows fluttering through the laurel hedge, and fifteen corvids holding court on the pitch.     To wrap things up, a noisy flock of thirty jackdaws swept overhead—likely beating the rush to their evening roost.
