Nerines

Daily Nature Log ✍️
A brisk 11 mph southwest wind gave a chilly “feels like” temperature of 9°C as I set off towards the school. Two wood pigeons hunted through the hedgerows, and a friendly dog walker offered a warm smile as she passed by with her black mongrel.
Heading towards the recreation ground, I met a curious tabby heading my way and spotted a pristine white cat preening on a doorstep. To dodge the mud, I bypassed the field itself, but still counted roughly 60 corvids and two gulls feasting on the sodden grass. Sparrows darted through the care home’s hawthorn hedge, while six feral pigeons and the trusty sentinel gull held their rooftop posts.
The afternoon quiet was shattered when a large flock of rooks erupted from the rookery, circling above the treetops with loud, indignant complaints—clearly startled by an unseen intruder. Passing a regular walker and her sleek black Greyhound on the home stretch brought another delightful daily walk to a close.
