Daily Nature Log. 25th August 2026

Cabbage White butterfly

A pleasant start to today’s walk with the air temperature sitting comfortably at 20°C to 21°C. Coastal breezes swept through, but without a hint of wind chill, keeping the real-feel steady and warm.
Down Foxy Lane, a lady was under the pine trees cleaning up after her black Labrador and black Greyhound. Skirting the recreation ground, a lone gull and a corvid were busy foraging on the grass.
The cemetery was bathed in brilliant sunshine, bringing out a flutter of Cabbage White butterflies—including a pair performing an impressive aerial dance right in front of a hawthorn hedge. A single woodpigeon swept overhead as I exited onto Cemetery Drive, where a warm breeze rustled the Holm Oaks, whispering away the first early autumn leaves.
Over by the leisure centre, ten feral pigeons sat neatly lined up along the rooftop edge, while a common gull held down its usual post atop a nearby house.
Things turned a bit tense at Cows Lane. A lady emerging from a private house nearly lost control of her growling Bull Terrier, which snapped at me as I passed. I stepped into the road to keep my distance—a familiar, unwelcome encounter with a dog I actively try to avoid.
