Daily Nature Log. 6th October 2026

Behind the wheel today instead of on foot, but Norfolk’s countryside provided a full theatrical performance regardless—part autumn spectacle, part wildlife tragedy, and part canine parade.
The turning leaves put on a brilliant display of lime, silver birch, hazel, and field maple against the lingering greens. On the wildlife front, the roadside was a somewhat precarious place: one live muntjac took its breakfast dangerously close to the tarmac, while a less fortunate relation lay further down the route as a stark reminder of rural traffic. Overhead and across the freshly ploughed fields, gulls, corvids, and a prolific array of birds were out in force. Add in grazing sheep, two striking black ponies, cud-chewing cattle, and a procession of local dogs walking their dutifully trained humans, and it turned out to be quite the safari—even at thirty miles an hour!
