Daily Nature Log. 7th October 2026

Daily Nature Log ✍️
The gusty west-southwesterly wind was in a roaring mood today—19°C on paper, but a nippy 17°C in practice. It gave me a proper workout, alternatively buffeting me back and shoving me along.
Things were quiet on the wildlife front until the edges of the recreation ground, where a pigeon shot overhead on the gale and a pair of corvids grazed the cricket pitch. In the cemetery, twenty woodpigeons erupted in a sudden flurry of wings, heading for the distant fields.

Passing the allotments, I captured a video of the pine trees swaying in the gale; the wind rustling through the needles sounded just like a concert crowd applauding. At the top end of the field, the wind rattled through the landscape while I took a quick panoramic shot.
The real highlight came on my way back through the cemetery gates. Standing just a few feet away, transfixed, was a muntjac deer. I raised my camera slowly and managed a couple of snaps before it bolted along the hedge, white tail flashing. Leaving the grounds, I spotted a handsome Golden Retriever out for his stroll.
