Daily Nature Log ✍️
Stepping out at 4:30 PM, the thermometer read 13°C (55°F), but a brisk 15 to 18 mph southerly gale put a sharp bite in the air.
At the recreation ground, four wood pigeons scrambled through pines whipped by the gusts—their needles rustling like polite applause before a concert. Rounding the Cemetery Drive entrance, I found the neighborhood’s usually fierce, active Pitbull completely flattened against a wall, dodging the chill.
Deeper inside the cemetery, a famously shy jay flashed past in a swift escape, while a sparrow ducked into a hedge beside a roosting wood pigeon. Back on Cemetery Drive, the wind tearing through the pines and holm oaks roared with the force of waves crashing onto a shingle beach.
Passing a young lady speed-walking a mongrel through a fine drizzle, both clearly desperate for home, I finished the loop just in time to catch a stunning sunset over the recreation ground.
