Daily Nature Log ✍️
Bright autumn sun greeted me at 11:00 am as I set off, though a fresh 18 mph south-east wind brought an 8°C chill to the 11°C air.

I skirted the golf course towards the seafront, passing sparrows in the brambles and around 50 jackdaws and rooks feeding on the greens alongside a lone wood pigeon. A couple of dog walkers—one with a yellow Labrador and another with a springer spaniel—crossed my path, while twenty common gulls gathered nearby. I paused to photograph bright yellow gorse blossoms just starting to burst into bloom.

Up on the clifftop, the low tide unveiled a wide stretch of sandy beach. Down on the promenade, about 50 sparrows darted among the shrubs—perfect targets for a few quick photos. Cormorants dried their wings on the groynes, two young herring gulls sparred until one landed on a wall, and I passed a dachshund and two young, muzzled Labradors.

Nature’s harsher side then showed itself: a jackdaw feeding on a sparrow—a sad sight, as both are firm favourites of mine.

Heading back towards the golf club, a small white butterfly fluttered onto the grass, a terrier bounded after a ball, and a local bird-feeder’s fence was packed with nearly 100 birds scrambling for food.
