Daily Nature Log. 15th October 2026

Red-legged partridge

Daily Nature Log ✍️
A sharp, gusty 25 mph westerly gale was blowing today—though the thermometer registered 13°C, the wind chill dragged the ‘feels like’ temperature down to a brisk 10°C.
Setting off around the recreation ground, I passed a lady out with a pair of light brown Cockapoo-type dogs, while wood pigeons fluttered amongst the thick hedgerows. Reaching the cemetery drive entrance, the local ‘friendly’ Pitbull Terrier was up on its trampoline in the garden, barking boisterously as usual! Opening the cemetery gate sent a flurry of eight startled wood pigeons scattering in every direction.
The undisputed highlight of the walk was a lone red-legged partridge, casually hopping through the wildflower garden alongside the main road—a grand moment that called for a brief pause to snap a few photos on the Pixel.

Further along, six feral pigeons sat neatly lined up along the leisure centre rooftop, and a lone crow hopped around the cricket pavilion before seeking refuge within the netted enclosure of the five-a-side pitch. Then came a marvelous grand finale: with a noisy chorus of loud cawing and a frenzy of flapping wings, over 50 rooks burst into motion, wheeling and circling above the high treetops of the rookery.
