Daily Nature Log ✍️
A brisk, gusty start to today’s walk! While the thermometer read 13°C, westerly gales topping 25 mph brought a sharp wind chill that made it feel a biting 10°C.
Heading towards the recreation ground, two wood pigeons were tumbling on the air currents before one settled on a rooftop. A friendly local lady out with a brown Cockapoo offered a warm smile, while a solitary gull banked high overhead, riding the gale in search of lunch. Further along, a man strolled past engrossed in a phone call, anchored by two lively companions on leads—a spirited Dachshund and a jet-black Cavapoo.

Entering the graveyard, the rustle of my approach sent a dunnock darting into the safety of a hedge and flushed a couple of wood pigeons into quick flight. Along Cemetery Drive, a blackbird was busily probing the grassy verge for food, while a brave little sparrow dashed across the road from hedge to hedge.
Reaching the leisure centre, I spotted the local gang: around twenty feral pigeons and a lone gull lined up in their usual spot along the roof ridge. Nearby, another gull stood silent sentinel atop a private house, keeping watch over the neighbourhood.
