Daily Nature Log. 27th October 2026

Daily Nature Log ✍️
A chilly 11°C breeze greeted me as I set off, though the thermometer insisted on 13°C. A lone wood pigeon held post on a rooftop while rooks began their noisy aerial antics over the cemetery.
The local dog parade was in full swing today: a lively brown Cockapoo giving chase to two kids in the play park, a small white Poodle-cross on a leash, a family out with a Jack Russell, and roughly 30 rooks sharing the rec ground grass with a solitary gull. But the star of the show was the “friendly” Pitbull, standing regally atop his garden trampoline. Unbothered by my camera, he simply offered a wide yawn and sank onto the canvas.

The real drama hit when I stepped into the cemetery. The rookery suddenly erupting in a whirlwind of black wings and wild, guttural calls—a stunning spectacle against the sky. After snapping a few shots of the avian frenzy, I rounded off the walk at the edge of the field, catching the setting sun as it cast a warm glow over the distant farmland, with wood pigeons and a pair of jackdaws escorting me along Cemetery Drive.
